It All Begins -- 6 Feb 1998

Here is my first post, it started when our daughter, Summer Marie, was born premature.  She spent 87 days in the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) at the Alexandria Hospital.  In the evenings I would be home alone, my wife (Lisa) remained at the hospital, she was recovering from the trauma she sustained in childbirth... or emergency surgery... if you can call it childbirth.  Anyhow, here were are, a month away from Summer's Sweet Sixteen.  It's time to repost all the events from those early weeks.

Here is the first email I sent to friends and family.

Friends,

As many of you know and some of you have yet to hear,  Summer Marie Muccio was born at 9:26 pm on 6 February 1998 after only 24 weeks of development.  Due to severe complications with Lisa’s pregnancy her uterus spontaneously ruptured resulting in severe blood loss for both Lisa and Summer.  In a pool of Lisa’s blood Summer was surgically delivered through the rupture and given directly to a Neo-natal miracle worker, Dr. Z.  Dr. Z  brought Summer back to life and Summer has been fighting strong for the past 114 hours.  She is still deep in the woods but has so far has been following the right trail.  She needs your prayers to help her stay on course.

Please pray that God will develop and strengthen Summer Marie.  That he will lead her through the dark woods, enabling her to follow her mother’s voice as she talks to her through the symphony of electronic beeps that serve as her surrogate womb.  Please pray for the lives of those who make it their business to care for Summer until she can be placed in our loving care.

If you feel comfortable in doing so, please pass this prayer to all of your on-line friends.

God bless you all,

Jim and Lisa Muccio
